A new gardening adventure
Gardening has been a way of life on this farm for over five generations. I’ve spent many a sunny day out in the garden with my grandmother, planting seeds, pulling weeds and eating fresh fruit and vegetables straight off the vine. It was part of the magic of growing up on the farm. And while we’ve always grown more than enough to share with friends and family, this year we are starting our first market garden.
Getting our inspiration from Jean-Martin Fortier’s The Market Gardener and Eliot Coleman’s The New Organic Grower, we’ve created no-till gardens that will allow us to grow the best produce, naturally. As we work towards organic certification, we are fine tuning our gardens, testing different plant varieties and having a lot of fun! We’ve already seen the benefits with the beautiful and healthy plants that we have already harvested.
While we’ve been working on this plan since last year, COVID-19 has certainly had an impact on how we have moved forward with this project. Living on a multi-generational farm, we’re sensitive to the risks that we all have to take when doing the most essential of tasks… buying food for our families. Living in a rural area has also meant that we do not have the option of having fresh fruits and vegetables delivered, we must take a risk to ensure that our family has healthy food to eat. This is why we’ve decided to sell some of our market produce online. We are limiting delivery to Estacada & Eagle Creek for now and keeping the cost of delivery low ($2.50, or free with $10.00 purchase). We are even offering contact-free delivery so that everyone can feel safe in getting fresh produce delivered right to them.
Please reach out if you have any questions or suggestions. This is a new adventure for us and we’re happy to hear from you!
